“Lyrically it reflects a turbulent time in our nation’s history when it was hard to know who and what to believe at any given time.” – Alastair Greene

Alastair Greene’s new single, “Lies And Fear,” available worldwide, was recorded live in the studio with Greene’s own touring band. Alastair notes, “’Lies and Fear’ was one of the songs I’d written before going down to Louisiana to make the album that became The New World Blues with producer Tab Benoit for his Whiskey Bayou Records label. Lyrically it reflects a turbulent time in our nation’s history when it was hard to know who and what to believe at any given time.”

This is Greene’s third single inspired by his critically acclaimed album since its October 2020 release. The New World Blues has received major airplay on SiriusXM Radio including being featured by Joe Bonamassa on his show. And just as with the previous two singles, a new music video will be out soon. Greene’s first video single “Living Today” saw a world premiere from Relix magazine, while “Bayou Mile” had a week-long exclusive premiere hosted on DittyTV. Stay tuned for more on the release of the new “Lies and Fear” music video.

Greene’s spring/summer tour with Tab Benoit and his band continues to be a huge success, performing at major festivals, theaters, and music venues including a six-night “Chicago Takeover” at the City Winery. Alastair seizes the moment, executing a blistering opening set with Tab on drums and Corey Duplechin on bass, garnering standing ovations for this super-trio nightly. Then after Benoit’s legendary, high energy set, Alastair joins Tab for a rip-roaring, head banging encore. It’s truly a musical event not to be missed. The tour has just started up again and continues throughout the summer and beyond.

The Austin, Nashville, and Toronto based Atomic Music Group is an international booking agency representing established recording artists of all genres and is now representing Greene alongside The Blasters, Sue Foley, Petula Clark and more. Atomic Music Group enthusiastically welcomes Greene to their roster: “Alastair is an exciting guitarist, singer, and songwriter with one hell of a pedigree. We are looking forward to taking an active role in his artistic development.”

That pedigree includes eight years of international touring on lead guitar and vocals with the Alan Parsons Project, major dates with Starship featuring Mickey Thomas, blues gigs as a longtime regular and host at the Memphis-based Blues Foundation events and showcases, featured performances at the Big Blues Bender and the Legendary Rhythm & Blues Cruise, a year of worldwide touring with the Sugaray Rayford Band, which was nominated for a 2020 Blues Music Award, the current 2021 tour with Grammy nominated Tab Benoit, as well as the Alastair Greene Band, which has drawn comparisons to Gov’t Mule, ZZ Top and Cream. Alastair Greene Drops Second Single From ‘The New World Blues’ – ‘Heroes (Acoustic Version)’

Alastair Greene Drops Second Single From ‘The New World Blues’ – ‘Heroes (Acoustic Version)’

“Lyrically it’s a tough one to get through when I sing it because it conjures up so many memories of people in my life that are no longer with us. It’s bitter sweet.” – Alastair Greene

Tab Benoit’s Whiskey Bayou Records has just released another acoustic single from accomplished singer/songwriter/guitarist Alastair Greene. The new track is a solo acoustic version of “Heroes” from Greene’s critically acclaimed album, The New World Blues, produced by Benoit. The single follows the February release of the first solo acoustic single, “Bayou Mile.” “Heroes” is available now worldwide.

The New World Blues hit the streets in October 2020, landing on the Billboard Blues Chart for multiple weeks, peaking at number three. SiriusXM’s Bluesville has given a home to three songs from the album, giving heavy airplay to “Living Today,” with “No Longer Amused” sitting comfortably on their Top 15 countdown. Joe Bonamassa featured Greene’s “Bayou Mile,” one of the tracks co-written with Benoit, on Bonamassa’s Bluesville show. Joe enthusiastically announced, “Alastair Greene is killing it! Singing great, writing great, he’s at the height of his powers.”

A highly in-demand guitarist and vocalist, Greene traveled the world, touring with the legendary Alan Parsons Live Project from 2010 – 2017, as well as stints with Starship featuring Mickey Thomas and, most recently, Blues Music Award-winner Sugaray Rayford. His work with Parsons, in particular, sparked a conversation with renowned multi-instrumentalist and producer Tab Benoit in Las Vegas at the Big Blues Bender. In 2019, Greene signed with Benoit’s Whiskey Bayou Records label. Armed with a cache of new material, Greene decamped to Benoit’s Houma, Louisiana studio outside New Orleans to track The New World Blues. With Benoit on drums and bassist Corey Duplechin, the three formed a classic power trio, recording nearly the entire album live in the studio.

“Heroes” was the second song I co-wrote with Tab while we were recording ‘The New World Blues,’ along with “Bayou Mile.” I’d had that main chord progression lying around for years and was just strumming it on a guitar when Corey said ‘What’s that?’ I told him they were some chords I’d been messing with forever. Tab said, ‘That’s cool. I’m hearing that it’s a song about heroes.’ I said, ‘Give me a day I’ll write some lyrics!’

So I wrote the lyrics and came back to Tab and told him I just needed a killer chord change for the chorus. He paused and then said, ‘Try C, E minor, and D.’ Next thing I knew the song was finished! Lyrically it’s a tough one to get through when I sing it because it conjures up so many memories of people in my life that are no longer with us. It’s bitter sweet. This song translates so well to acoustic guitar that it was an obvious choice to record. Once again (like the acoustic version of “Bayou Mile”) this is live in the studio with no overdubs. —Alastair Greene

Here’s a taste of “Heroes.”

Greene plans to tour heavily in support of the album this summer with the multi Grammy nominated Benoit as Tab Benoit and the Whiskey Bayou Revue, featuring Alastair Greene. Be on the lookout for tour dates across the country at Greene’s website.

New Alastair Greene Album Produced By Tab Benoit Out 10/23

Press Release

The 11 songs cover a lot of ground, tying together Greene’s diverse influences into his deeply rooted playing, singing, and songwriting.

Whiskey Bayou Records proudly presents The New World Blues by Alastair Greene, produced by Whiskey Bayou co-founder Tab Benoit, out 10/23/20. Benoit’s label partner, Rueben Williams, also manager to Greene and Benoit, enthuses, “On The New World Blues, Alastair makes it clear why he is a ‘guitar player’s guitar player’ and this recording will surely leave the Alastair Greene stamp on the Blues Rock World.”

Greene traveled to Houma, Louisiana to record with Grammy nominated Benoit, who produced, played drums and sang harmonies on this record, and bass player Corey Duplechin. “This is definitely the most stripped down blues-based album I’ve ever made. The vast majority of this record is live in the studio with very few overdubs and many were first or second takes,” says Greene.

The diverse, thoughtfully penned songs are all Greene originals, with a few co-written with Benoit. “When I started writing the majority of these songs in early 2019, I had no idea they would take on a whole new and more poignant meaning as time went on” says Greene, “The New World Blues is a reflection of current times and has equal parts light and dark.” With Alastair Greene, even the darkest lyrics are woven with a thread of hope.

The 11 songs cover a lot of ground, tying together Greene’s diverse influences into his deeply rooted playing, singing, and songwriting. Some tracks give a nod to rock icons like Gary Moore and Peter Green, others find a funky blues groove. Some are driven by Greene’s tasty slide guitar, while others capture the feel of the Cajun environment, paired with a rock-solid Louisiana rhythm section.

Greene’s rock credentials include eight years of international touring on guitar and vocals with the Alan Parsons Project, and major dates with Starship featuring Mickey Thomas. As a blues player he is a longtime regular and host at the Memphis-based Blues Foundation events, performances and showcases, has been a featured performer at the Big Blues Bender and the Legendary Rhythm & Blues Cruise, and traversed the globe over the past year touring with Sugaray Rayford’s band, which was nominated for a 2020 Blues Music Award. The Alastair Greene Band, which has drawn comparisons to Gov’t Mule, ZZ Top and Cream, just celebrated their 20th anniversary with a two-disc live album.

JP Soars:
LET GO OF THE REINS showcases one of the Blues World’s premier talents, JP Soars, with incredible style as a guitarist, singer, and songwriter. A two-time Blues Music Awards nominee, Soars draws from many styles and blends them into a sound that is all his own. Produced by Tab Benoit – LET GO OF THE REINS is a landmark CD for Soars and Benoit as they stretch boundaries while delivering solid songwriting craftsmanship on their “swampish” endeavor. J.P. is psyched about this latest release that was recorded during a whirlwind weeklong session at Tab Benoit’s Whiskey Bayou studios, with a band featuring Red Hot’s drummer Chris Peet on bass, and Benoit on drums. They recorded twelve songs in five days – eight originals which they wrote on the spot, plus four choice covers. The inspiration for the album came from the many nights they all spent jamming into the wee hours on the Legendary Rhythm and Blues Cruise and at the Big Blues Bender, and as expected, they captured many magical musical moments.

In the decade since he burst upon the national scene by winning 1st place in the Blues Foundation’s 2009 International Blues Challenge in Memphis, TN with his band the Red Hots (and the prestigious Albert King Award as best guitarist), Arkansas native J.P. Soars has toured extensively through the United States, Canada, South America and Europe, and released an impressive catalog of powerful music. In addition to his work with his own Red Hots, Soars has been part of the regional all-star blues act Southern Hospitality, also featuring Tampa vocalist/guitarist Damon Fowler and 2019 Grammy nominee, Memphis vocalist/keyboardist Victor Wainwright, plus Red Hots drummer Chris Peet and Wainwright’s bassist Terrance Grayson.

Alastair Greene:
Guitarist, singer and songwriter Alastair Greene will be releasing an exciting new record on Tab Benoit’s Whiskey Bayou Records. Known as a rocking guitarist with a strong blues background, Greene has released eight previous records. In addition to many years with his own band, he toured internationally for over 7 years with the Alan Parsons Project, and has spent the past year as the guitarist in the Sugaray Rayford Band, nominated for a Blues Music Award this year for BAND OF THE YEAR. Greene’s musical journey has been anything but traditional. His combination of Blues, Southern Rock, and Jam Band sensibilities has been thrilling audiences for nearly two decades. With recent performances at the Chicago Blues Festival and the Big Blues Bender in Las Vegas as well as recent tours filling in on guitar with Starship featuring Mickey Thomas, and many guest appearances with such luminaries as Eric Burdon, Walter Trout, Coco Montoya, Savoy Brown, John Nemeth, and Debbie Davies, it’s crystal clear….. Alastair Greene’s star is on the rise.

Alastair and Tab got to know each other on some annual gigs at the Big Blues Bender, and soon become friends as well as musical compadres, so when Tab asked Alastair to join his Whiskey Bayou Records label, it was a natural fit. Greene traveled to Whiskey Bayou Studios in Houma Louisiana with a handful of songs. Tab helped arrange and produce, they did some co-writing, and wound up with 11 original songs. With Greene on guitar and vocals, Tab on drums and harmony vocals, and Corey Duplechin on bass and harmony vocals they recorded most tracks live in the studio. Greene notes that these songs reflect more straight-up blues than his last couple of records, while the songwriting does stretch in to some different territories — Blues Rock filtered through a funky Louisiana Rhythm section. The new record will be coming in 2020. Stay tuned!

Josh Garrett:
Garrett is a triple-threat singer, songwriter, guitarist with a growing reputation as an exciting genre-crossing performer from New Roads, LA. He and his family relocated to Houma, LA when Josh was a child. He picked up his father’s guitar when he was 12 years old and started writing songs soon after. By age 20, Garrett was performing several times a week in Houma, LA. At age 24, he recorded his first album entitled, Changed Man and never looked back. In 2008, he relocated to Nashville, TN. While there, he recorded his second album, Live on Printer’s Alley – a double album. Two years later Josh returned home to Louisiana and began work on his third album. String of Problems, released Aug 2011, which hit #1 on the Roots Music Louisiana Blues Charts and hit the #1 Spot two weeks in a row on American Blues Scene “Blues Top Five”. Josh still resides in his home state of Louisiana near Baton Rouge.

Mutil-Grammy® nominated blues legend Kenny Neal says, “Josh is our next generation with an old soul and he’s playing it with his heart. That’s what we need more of today.”  And rock great Jimmy Hall emphasized – “Josh Garrett is a young triple threat blues man, with a winning combination of unique Cajun flavor guitar work, soulful vocals, and a killer band.  I am honored to perform with him.”  Today.com wrote – “Not only is [Josh Garrett] an amazing musician, he’s an excellent performer. He’s charismatic, fun, and really knows how to work the crowd. If you go to see Josh Garrett and the Bottom Line you will definitely have an amazing time, especially if you love the blues.” Keep your eyes on Josh for a release in 2020 produced by Tab Benoit for Whiskey Bayou Records. For more info on JP Soars, Alastair Greene, Josh Garrett, Jeff McCarty, Eric McFadden, Damon Fowler, and Eric Johanson go to Whiskey Bayou Records.
